About Sherwin Kaufman:
Sherwin Kaufman is a retired physician living in New York with a new career as a pop composer and lyricist. A recipient of many songwriting awards, Kaufman was an American Songwriter contest winner for The Power of Prayer, a song subsequently recorded by the Nashville Gospel duo, Partners in Praise, on REF Records. He was runner-up in another American Songwriter contest for Tell Us What You See, which was showcased in New York by MAC and ASCAP. Still another song, Sleep in Peace, God is Awake, won first place in a Songwriters Association of Washington song contest, as well as in Songwriters Monthly.
Kaufman currently has two cuts on a new holiday album, Home for the Holidays: A Multi-Cultural Celebration of Christmas, Kwanzaa and Hanukkah, released on 13 Stories Records, a company co-founded by the Songwriters Guild of Americas ProShop leader, Ann Ruckert. Sherwin is an inspiration to us all, Ruckert said recently. He writes and collaborates prolifically in many styles.
Sherwin recently returned from the Ukraine where he attended a festival honoring his grandfather, the noted humorist, Sholom Aleichem, on whose stories the musical Fiddler on the Roof was based. A large statue of him stands in the center of Kiev, Sherwin reported, and the house where he was born 140 years ago has been preserved as a museum. Its the first time I have returned to my own birthplace, the Ukraine.
Bio by Brian Muni, American Songwriter, January/February 2000.
