About Oscar Peterson:
Some of Oscar Peterson’s best work was with Verve Records from 1950 to 1965. This CD is an outstanding compilation of nine of his classics from that period. He starts out with a salute to Errol Garner, flies through “Love You Madly,” stops your heart with “Young and Foolish,” and then takes you over the top with the greatest rendition of “Tenderly” ever performed on jazz piano. Has a friend ever asked you, “What’s so exciting about jazz?” If so, have them listen to this brilliant interpretation of “Tenderly.” Improvisation just doesn’t get any better than this—if you listen to only one song on this CD, go right to number 9.
