Gerald J. Marks, MD, is an internationally recognized colorectal surgeon who is known for his pioneering contributions and techniques in anal sphincter preservation surgery, management of intestinal radiation injuries, and maintenance of normal function in rectal cancer and ulcerative colitis. He holds honorary memberships in many major national and international societies and has received medals of recognition as a visiting professor from a number of international universities. Dr. Marks also happens to be an excellent watercolor painter whose work has been shown both nationally and internationally.

The Art of Healing Collection II is composed of artworks created by nineteen world-renowned artists for the benefit of Doctors of the World. It was inaugurated at their Annual Benefit Dinner on November 12th, 2002. All proceeds from art sales will benefit Doctors of the World’s programs.

Dr. Slaven has been a photographer and a physician for about the same length of time, roughly 30 years.
His photographs represent two broad interests: images of his travels around the country and around the world, and photos of his hospital environment, especially the operating room.
Although he has no formal training in photography, he have “moved up the ranks” from basic point-and-shoot cameras through 35mm and medium format. In recent years he has been shooting digitally both in the hospital and out.

For Eve Reaven, the electron microscope is a source of scientific
exploration—and artistic expression. A prominent cell biologist, Dr. Reaven
long saw great beauty through the eyepiece: the whorls of mitochondria, the
texture of muscle fibers, the patterns of lipoproteins. To share these
images with others, Dr. Reaven now recreates them on fabricăsilk scarves and
ties that are as intellectually intriguing as they are visually appealing.
